HPE used Discover 2026 in Las Vegas to announce a sweeping platform refresh covering virtualization, sovereign cloud, AI cost control, and a deep ServiceNow tie-in. Here is what it means for your infrastructure team.

HPE Discover 2026: GreenLake, Morpheus 9, and the Post-VMware Opportunity for Enterprise IT

The biggest enterprise infrastructure event of the June calendar wrapped in Las Vegas on June 17 and 18, and HPE used it to make a set of announcements that will matter to anyone running hybrid infrastructure, paying Broadcom VMware licensing bills, or trying to control the cost of AI workloads. Here is what happened, why it counts, and what your team should do next.

What HPE Announced at Discover 2026

HPE's announcements break into four distinct moves.

HPE Morpheus 9 as a VMware replacement. HPE Morpheus Software is now positioned squarely as an enterprise-grade alternative to existing virtualization platforms. It combines self-service provisioning with integrated observability, supports VM and container workloads side by side, and runs under a single per-socket subscription. New software-defined networking support brings multitenancy, zero-trust security controls, VXLAN overlay networking, and policy enforcement into Morpheus environments, with HPE claiming up to 60% faster provisioning. Integration with HPE Juniper Apstra adds intent-based network automation that continuously validates configurations, detects drift, and enforces policy. Stretched cluster support is now generally available, enabling active-active deployments across two sites with synchronous replication and automated failover.

Air-gapped private cloud for regulated sectors. HPE Private Cloud air-gapped editions for the PC3000 and PC7000 will be available in Q3 2026. The PC7000 deployment includes readiness for Department of Defense Impact Level 4 (IL4) certification, covering secure design, configuration hardening, and vulnerability management aligned with leading national and international compliance standards. This is a direct pitch to government, defence, finance, and healthcare operators who cannot place workloads on a public cloud.

GreenLake Intelligence and the ServiceNow partnership. GreenLake Intelligence is HPE's new agentic AI framework for hybrid cloud and IT operations. It provides a centralised agent registry, intelligent orchestration, and secure governance controls to coordinate AI agents across infrastructure, applications, and operational workflows. The practical piece: HPE and ServiceNow are integrating GreenLake Intelligence through the OpsRamp Operations Copilot into ServiceNow's autonomous AI workforce, creating a shared source of truth for infrastructure telemetry and end-to-end autonomous service delivery. For organisations already standardised on ServiceNow for ITSM, this is a concrete integration, not a vague "better together" slide. The OpsRamp Copilot also adds new observability for LLMs and agents, including token consumption monitoring and AI cost visibility across multi-vendor environments.

Citrix on GreenLake and migration economics. Citrix Desktop-as-a-Service is coming to GreenLake for on-premises and sovereign deployments. Citrix DaaS and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops will integrate with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials as a key virtualization platform, with HPE CloudOps providing unified orchestration and observability. To ease the financial switch, HPE is offering new Morpheus VM Essentials customers up to one free year of licences, a year of HPE Zerto for one dollar to support non-disruptive VM migration, and 0% interest on software through HPE Financial Services.

Why This Matters Beyond the Conference Floor

The post-Broadcom VMware pricing shock is still working through enterprise IT budgets. HPE is one of several vendors, alongside Nutanix and Red Hat, competing for that displaced spend. What differentiates this week's announcements is the combination of a credible virtualization alternative, a consumption-based commercial model, and a sovereign and air-gapped infrastructure story that public cloud providers simply cannot match.

The token cost data is worth noting specifically. HPE CTO Fidelma Russo cited internal results: HPE built an AI support platform on-premises using GreenLake Intelligence and Private Cloud AI, achieving more than 30x lower cost and nearly 100,000 dollars saved per month compared to running equivalent workloads externally. That is the kind of number that gets a CFO's attention and shifts the on-premises inference conversation from a technical preference to a budget decision.

GreenLake Intelligence and ServiceNow integrations are planned to roll out across 2026 and 2027, so early engagement matters for teams that want to influence the roadmap.

What IT and Infrastructure Teams Should Do Now

  • If you are on VMware, run the numbers today. HPE Zerto supports live workload migration from VMware to HPE virtual machines while maintaining continuous data protection. Combined with the 0% financing offer, the cost-to-switch argument just got weaker. Get a comparison quote before your next renewal conversation.

  • If you run regulated workloads, put air-gapped private cloud on your Q3 2026 roadmap. Plan your evaluation now so procurement is not rushed when the product becomes available.

  • If you use ServiceNow, talk to your HPE account team now. Getting into an early-adopter cohort for the GreenLake Intelligence integration typically means faster support and more influence over the feature roadmap before it hardens.

  • Treat on-premises AI inference as a budget line, not just a technical option. HPE's internal case study is a useful reference to bring to leadership. It will not suit every workload, but for high-volume, sensitive, or latency-critical inference, the economics are shifting toward private infrastructure.

  • Check your Morpheus deployment. Updates are rolling out across Q2 and Q3 2026. Review the release notes as they land, particularly for the new Morpheus Central single-pane view and the Orchestration Copilot features.
